The Shaker Arts Council presents Verb Ballets For their only East Side Appearance this Winter

12/30/2014

Shaker Heights, OH
December 30, 2014

On Friday, January 30, 2015, the Shaker Arts Council 2014-15 Aha! (At Home with the Arts)  series presents Verb Ballets in an evening of versatile works that push the envelope of classical dance. The concert will be at Christ Episcopal Church, 3445 Warrensville Center Rd., Shaker Heights, OH 44122. The evening begins at 7:00 pm with a brief wine reception followed by the performance at 7:45. $30 tickets are general admission only including light refreshments.  For ticket reservations and more information call 216-916-9360. Tickets can also be purchased online at www.shakerartscouncil.org or in person, subject to availability, the evening of the performance.

Under the direction of Dr. Margaret Carlson, Director, and Richard Dickinson, Associate Director, the program will feature Similar by Anthony Krutzkamp.  Formerly a principal dancer with the Cincinnati Ballet., Krutzkamp is now choreographer and  Co-Artistic Director for Kansas City Dance Festival. Verb Ballets revises this contemporary ballet described by The Plain Dealer as a work, “ in which highly refined steps and streamlined gestures based in classical ballet movements find a new application and great emotional depth.”

Returning to the stage is Dickinson’s ballet about loss and longing, Four Last Songs. This piece interprets the haunting melodies of Richard Strauss' last work and the writings of the poets, Hermann Hesse and Joseph von Eichendorff.  The program continues with Passing By choreographed by Antonio Brown, a dancer with Bill T. Jones
Arnie Zane Dance Company.  This contemporary work intertwines patterns and bodies for a visually vivacious performance. The pulsating electronic music is entrancing as dancers dynamically move through puddles of light. The show will also feature two duets from Ohio Ballet founder, Heinz Poll. Each duet has been selected to highlight the dancers and showcase their technical abilities.
