On Sunday, March 12, 2016, the Shaker Arts Council and Karamu Performing Arts Theatre presents the world premiere staged reading of The Bloodless Jungle a workshop to benefit the Shaker Arts Council The Bloodless Jungle is a play written by Peter Lawson Jones and directed by Karamu Artistic Director, Terrence Spivey. The play centers around Ethan St. John, a rising star in the Democratic political world who is running for a critical seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. During the campaign a high school friend is accused of a crime. He is faced with a daunting choice: does he abandon an old friend and focus on winning the election, or does he jeopardize the campaign by supporting his friend. The play ultimately centers around the decision Ethan makes and its consequences.
The performance will be held at the Karamu House, 2355 E 89th St, Cleveland, OH 44106. Tickets are $35 and include light refreshments and a reception. There will be a cash bar. The afternoon begins at 2:00 pm with a talk back Q & A and reception following the performance . For ticket reservations and more information call 216.916.9360. Jones, a member of SAG-AFTRA and Actor’s Equity, has appeared in nearly twenty films as well as on network television. His drama, “The Family Line,” has been successfully produced at Karamu Performing Arts Theatre, In his capacity as a business consultant, he works in the areas of government relations, community engagement, event planning, fundraising and fatherhood programming. From February 2002, through December 2010, Jones served as a member of the Board of Cuyahoga County Commissioners and for three of those years as its president. Jones previously served two and one-half terms in the Ohio House of Representatives. Jones was formerly the Vice Mayor and a Councilman in the City of Shaker Heights, Ohio. Jones has received over fifty awards and honors for his governmental, civic and political work.
Other actors participating in the project are Leon Bibb and Rhonda Khan. Leon Bibb is the vetran channel 5 anchor. Rhonda Khan is an actor from NYC and has been seen in various productions across the country including A Civil War Christmas, Virginia Monologs, For Colored Girls, and Big River.
