Shaker Arts Council Seeks Artists for Art Competition for Utility Box Designs

Building on the success of several years of traffic utility box projects, the Shaker Arts Council (SHAC) is pleased to announce this year’s project: Painting the Town. SHAC is sponsoring a juried art competition for the design of utility boxes located in Shaker Heights.

SHAC is looking for artists 21 years or older who live or work in Shaker Heights. Applicants who reside in the Shaker Heights School District or are a member of the Shaker Arts Council also are eligible. Designs and applications must be submitted no later than Monday 10 April at 5pm. For more information and to download thecall, application and template, visit www.shakerartscouncil.org.

Announces New Art-Wrapped Utility Boxes Added to Public Art Tour

Shaker Arts Council (SHAC) is announcing the unveiling of seven newly wrapped utility boxes throughout Shaker Heights. The designs are the winning entries of the 2022 Painting the Town project, supported in part by the Ohio Arts Council (OAC). The high school student-designed box by recent graduate
Carmen Joachimsmeyer–Gordon can be viewed at the Shaker Heights Middle School, 20600 Shaker Boulevard. The box designed by professional artist Georgio Sabino III can be seen on the median at Shaker Boulevard/Coventry Road. This unique box is interactive and features augmented reality. When
you scan the attached QR code with a smartphone or tablet, the box will come alive. Other boxes by professional artists can be found at the intersections of South Park Boulevard/Lee Road (Allison Wooley), South Woodland Road/Torrington Road and South Woodland Road/Belvoir Boulevard (Anna Hsu), South Green Road/Fairmount Boulevard (David Thal) and Warrensville Center Road/Fairmount Circle (Alicia Vasquez). These boxes have been added to SHAC’s Shaker Heights Public Art Green Line Tour that can be accessed by computer or mobile device at shakerartscouncil.org. The Blue Line Tour can be
found on the website, as well. Feel free to bike, drive or walk using your electronic device, or take the tour virtually. For more information visit

Shaker Arts Council Seeks Performers for Shaker’s Got Talent

Shaker Arts Council (SHAC) is sponsoring Shaker’s Got Talent (SGT), a juried event shining a light on Northeast Ohio’s hidden talent. Amateur performers - from poets and dog owners showing off their pets’ amazing tricks to singers, dancers and magicians - are welcome to audition with their family friendly talent.  Shaker’s Got Talent will be held outdoors Sunday August 7, 2022 from 4-6pm at the Van Aken District, 3401 Tuttle Rd, Shaker Heights, OH 44122.
 
SHAC is looking for performers 12 years or older.  Applications and video samples no longer than two minutes must be submitted no later than Thursday 30 June at 5pm.  For more information and to view the call and to submit an application, visit www.shakerartscouncil.org.

Shaker Arts Council Holiday Art Market Presented by KeyBank

The Shaker Arts Council Holiday Art Market will be presented by KeyBank on Saturday, December 4, 2021. This one day pop-up is an opportunity to shop for the holidays while supporting local artists. The
Holiday Art Market will be held from 11am -5pm at The Van Aken District along Walker Road in Shaker Heights. Selections will include accessories, art, ceramics, cosmetics, fiber art, jewelry, paper goods and
photography with gifts for every age and price range. The event will include live music and will have complimentary hot beverages and bitesfor the attendees, a fun photobooth experience and a make-and-takecraft station for the kids. Bring the whole family for this fun shopping

Shaker Arts Council Announces New Art-Wrapped Utility Boxes Added to Public Art Tour

Shaker Arts Council (SHAC) is announcing the unveiling of eight newly wrapped utility boxes throughout Shaker Heights. Two student-designed boxes can be viewed at the corner of Parkland Drive and Lee Road and near the RTA Green line tracks at Southington Road. Three of the boxes designed by professional artists can be seen at the intersections of Lee Road, Courtland Boulevard, South Green Road and Shaker
Boulevard and three others at the intersections of Ashby Road, Kenmore Road and Onaway Road and Van Aken Boulevard. The eight boxes have been added to the Shaker Heights Public Art Tour. New this year, due to the abundance of public art in Shaker Heights, the tour has been divided into two routes: the Blue Line and the Green Line. The SHAC sponsored online tours can be accessed by computer or mobile devices. Feel free to bike, drive or walk in person using your electronic device, or take the tour virtually. Shaker Arts Council Announces Imagine Chagrin Art Exhibit

The Shaker Arts Council (SHAC) is mounting a free public art exhibit this fall in the storefront windows of local businesses along Chagrin Boulevard between Lee and Avalon Roads and along Lee Road between Chagrin and Van Aken.  The Imagine Chagrin exhibit aims to highlight local businesses, showcase local artists, and reinvigorate Shaker Heights’ classic downtown.  The exhibit dates are September 10 through October 8, 2021. 
 
Participating storefronts are Master Marr’s Taekwondo, Shaker Heights Animal Hospital, Africa Art and Clothes, Chagrin Wine & Beverage Co, Diamond's Men's Store, Brown-Forward Funeral Home, A Touch of Italy,  Faithfully Fit Fitness, Gomez Shoe Repair, Reclamation, Shaker Jazzy Clips, Shaker Heights Nutrition, Shaker Upper Crust, Strive Mental Health and Wellness, and 3-19 Coffee.
 
The professional artists corresponding to the stores listed above are Anna Hsu, Fatima Matar, Ewuresi Archer,  Meryl Engler,  Christina Eagleeye-Wilson, Tristan Hearn, Mata Ziegler, Tai Gomez-Curtain, Louisa Scott, 3Dink - Daija Davis, Georgio Sabino III, Alicia Vasquez, Jacqueline Kahane Freedman, R&B-Studio216 - Bonnie Venable, and Allison Wooley.

Shaker Arts Council Seeks Artists for Storefront Displays

The Shaker Arts Council (SHAC) is looking for artists to bring art to local storefronts this coming fall. Imagine Chagrin aims to reinvigorate the Chagrin and Lee commercial center, support local businesses, and showcase the abundance of artistic talent in our community. The “Imagine Chagrin” exhibit dates are September 10 through October 8. SHAC is sponsoring artistic displays for storefronts located along Chagrin Boulevard between Lee and Avalon Roads and along Lee Road between Chagrin and Van Aken.
SHAC is looking for artists 18 years or older who live in the Greater Cleveland area so that the artwork can be installed on site. Building on the success of the Painting the Town and Building Blocks utility box projects, the Shaker Arts Council (SHAC) is pleased to announce this year’s project: SHAC on TRAC.  SHAC, in collaboration with the Reginal Transit Authority (RTA), is sponsoring a juried art competition for the design of utility boxes located along Shaker Heights rapid tracks.

Shaker Arts Council Presents The Art of Reading Book Club via Zoom

Shaker Arts Council (SHAC) announces The Art of Reading Book Club. The saying goes “A picture is worth a thousand words.” Come spend a cozy and casual evening discussing an eclectic mix of books with art related storylines, explore the images they showcase and the times they reflect. Pre read the book or just join for the experience of connecting with fellow art lovers. Margaret Reardon will lead the discussions. Meetings will be held the fourth Wednesday of each month at 7:00pm as a part of Stay-in-Place Productions, the arts council’s response to COVID -19. This program is free and open to everyone. Margaret Reardon, a resident of Shaker Heights, has over twenty years of experience presenting literacy programs and leading book clubs. Books and art have been lifelong interests. Furthering the missions of nonprofits who support these interests is  a passion as well, and she is excited to have these all come together in support of the wonderful work of SHAC.
