Conversations in Courage logo

The Shaker Arts Council (SHAC) invites friends and members of the community to help support the making of the documentary film, Conversations in Courage. The film tells the story of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s 1965 visit to Shaker Heights, and it features interviews with people who were involved directly in bringing Dr. King here and others who provided historical perspective to the event. The documentary recounts the social and racial divisions among members of the Shaker Heights community, and it presents the broader social and racial tensions of the 1960s Civil Rights Movement.

While this work-in-progress has been shown publicly, we now are putting the final touches on the piece and preparing the study guide that will accompany the video. SHAC will give the documentary and study guide to the public and private schools in Shaker Heights as well as to our public libraries. All funds will go directly to these efforts. Donations must be received no later than Wednesday, March 27, 2024 to be included in the credits.
Film credits will recognize your funding support in the following categories:
Individual Patrons: $25
Individual Benefactors: $100
Neighborhood Association Benefactors: $100
Corporate Patrons: $250
Corporate Benefactors: $500
